A man has been charged with manslaughter after he allegedly shot and killed his pet dog while in a cage.
A 29-year-old man from Bairnsdale has been arrested after police say he fired three shots into the cage after the dog refused to go out.
Police said the man had the dog locked up in a crate for a month.
The incident happened on June 25, police said.
“The man was in a very violent and violent state, and his actions caused the animal to lose its balance and it fell to the ground,” Detective Sergeant Mark McPherson said.
“The victim attempted to retrieve it from the cage and he was shot in the leg by the suspect.”
He then grabbed the dog by the neck and attempted to strangle the dog.
“The man, who was in custody on Wednesday, has been bailed until his next court appearance.
